BMW A/C Blows Warm: Condenser, Evaporator or Compressor
Warm air from the vents is not one repair. A condenser leak shows up as an oily spot at the lower corner or a system that goes low after a recharge, and the condenser sits behind the grille. An evaporator leak is confirmed with dye or a sniffer and means the dash comes out. A compressor failure adds a broken clutch or pulley, or a squeal from the belt, and the system has to be evacuated and recharged.

Condenser: the part behind the grille
The condenser page lists warm air, a visible oily spot on the lower corner, and a system that is low after a recharge. Road debris holes it, and corrosion at the lower corner by the drier is also named. The job needs refrigerant recovery, the swap, and an evacuate and recharge. Aftermarket Behr or Nissens condensers cost less than genuine, and the page says to ask if you can supply one. See A/C Condenser Replacement.
The evaporator symptoms are warm air after a recharge, a leak found at the evaporator by dye or a sniffer, and a musty smell from the vents. The note says to have the leak confirmed before agreeing to dash removal. The page covers the E90, including the 335i, and the G05 X5. See A/C Evaporator Replacement and BMW G05 repair costs. A musty smell with rain water, rather than a refrigerant leak, is the BMW Sunroof Drain Clog and Wet Floor.
The E9x compressor page lists warm air, a broken compressor clutch or pulley, and a squeal or rattle from the belt area. It covers the 325i, 328i and 335i. The note says to replace the receiver-drier whenever the system has been open, and to have a shop evacuate and recharge it. See A/C Compressor (E9x) and BMW E90 repair costs.
The repair pages split it three ways: a leaking condenser behind the grille, a leaking evaporator behind the dash, or a failed compressor clutch or pulley. A fan that only works on high is the blower or the final stage resistor instead.
