BMW Window Regulator Failure

A grinding or crunching noise and then the glass drops, a motor that hums while the glass stays put, or glass you can slide by hand, is the cable window regulator. If the motor hums, the page says you may only need the regulator. E90 regulators are often sold without the motor. F30 front regulators are often the assembly with the motor. Initialize one-touch after the install or anti-trap misbehaves.

How it fails

The symptoms are a grind or crunch and then the glass drops, a motor that hums but the glass does not move, and glass that slides freely by hand. See Window Regulator (Cable Type). This is not the lock actuator. A door that will not lock with the fob is the BMW Door Lock Actuator Failure.

Regulator only, or regulator and motor

The note says if the motor hums you may only need the regulator. The models line says an E90 is often sold without the motor, and an F30 front is often the assembly with the motor. Those are different parts and different prices. The page's shop figures are price bands from a specialist, and it says single-invoice owner posts are still limited.

After it is in

Labor is the door card off, about 45 to 60 minutes per window as a DIY. Initialize the window afterward or one-touch and anti-trap misbehave. The parts list includes butyl tape for the vapor barrier. Window Regulator (Cable Type) on a BMW E90/E92/F30/F32 typically costs $300–$500 at an independent shop, $500–$800 at a BMW dealer, or $50–$483 in parts DIY, based on 4 real owner-reported prices.

Cars

The page names the E90, E92, F30 and F32. See BMW E90 repair costs and BMW F30 repair costs. A blower that only works on high is unrelated and is covered in the BMW Blower Motor and Final Stage Resistor.
